OUR EYE EXAMS & EVALUATIONS
Comprehensive Eye Exams
Comprehensive eye exams includes a group of tests in order to do a complete evaluation of the health of your eyes and your vision.

Children under 6 years exams
Our comprehensive exams for children include the same tests as adults. We also have the option of shapes or numbers if your child cannot read yet. We trial frame the prescription to make sure your child can see. We also offer the option of showing parents what their kids can see without glasses to help them better understand what their child sees every day.
Myopia Control
Myopia (or nearsightedness), one out of two people (50%) have it. Dr. Michelle Hanley can help slow the progression of myopia in children. Diabetic Eye Exams
A diabetic eye exam is a detailed evaluation of the health of your retina and other parts of the eye that can be affected by diabetes.

Glaucoma Monitoring and Treatment
Glaucoma is a condition that damages your eye’s optic nerve. Most people with glaucoma have no early symptoms or pain. It is a good idea to visit your optometrist once every 2-3 years if your eye exams have been negative for glaucoma.
We diagnose Glaucoma through our comprehensive eye exam. Glaucoma worsens over time, so it is a good idea to check your eyes frequently with an optometrist like Dr. Michelle Hanley to get it diagnosed early.
Glaucoma testing includes:
- Patient history to determine any symptoms the patient is experiencing and if there are any general health problems and family history that may be contributing to the problem.
- Visual acuity measurements to determine if vision is being affected.
- Tonometry to measure the pressure inside the eye to detect increased risk factors for glaucoma.
- Visual field testing, also called perimetry, to check if the field of vision has been affected by glaucoma. This test measures your side (peripheral) vision and central vision by either determining the dimmest amount of light that can be detected in various locations of vision, or by determining sensitivity to targets other than light.
- List ItemPachymetry to measure corneal thickness. People with thinner corneas are at an increased risk of developing glaucoma.
- Evaluation of the retina of the eye, which may include photographs or scans of the optic nerve, to monitor any changes over time.
- Supplemental testing, which may include gonioscopy. This procedure offers a view of the angle anatomy, which is where eye fluid drainage occurs. Serial tonometry is another possible test. This procedure acquires several pressure measurements over time, looking for changes in the eye pressure throughout the day. In addition, devices can be used to measure nerve fiber thickness and to look for tissue loss on specific areas of the nerve fiber layer.
- Follow-Up
Glaucoma treatment:
Glaucoma treatment focuses on reducing pressure in the eye to relieve some of the symptoms caused by the disease. Regular use of prescription eye drops is the most common and often the first treatment. Some cases may require systemic medications, laser treatment, or other surgery. While there is not yet a cure for glaucoma, early diagnosis and continuing treatment can preserve eyesight.
There are also:
- Medications
- Surgery
- Laser surgery
- Conventional surgery
- Drainage implants

Some of the symptoms of diabetic retinopathy are:
- Floaters, or dots and dark strings, in your field of vision
- Dark or empty areas in your field of vision
- Blurry vision
- Difficulty focusing
- Vision changes that seem to fluctuate
- Altered color vision
- Partial or total vision loss
Why is important to do a Comprehensive Eye Exam:
The only way to diagnose diabetic retinopathy is to have a dilated eye exam which comes in our Comprehensive Eye Exam. Dr. Michelle Hanley will place drops in your eyes to dilate your pupils and see inside your eyes to inspect for damage caused by retinopathy.
We do evaluations of other conditions such as macular degeneration, cataracts, and field loss.
